Day 2: Oslo-Flam-Sognefjord/Balestrand

The Bergensbanen mountain train Oslo to Myrdal, the famous Flam Railway, express steamer fjord cruise Flam-Sognefjord/Balestrand. 2 nights in Balestrand at the beautifully located Kvikne's hotel. Grand buffet dinner included both evenings

Day 3: Fjaerlandsfjord & glacier excursion

Fjord cruise to the Fjaerlandsfjord branch with connecting bus to the glacier arms of the Jostedal glacier. Return to Balestrand by ferry. Please note that it is not possible to walk on the glaciers- just sightseeing

Day 4: Balestrand-Bergen

Express steamer fjord cruise on the outer parts of the Sognefjord and along the scenic coast, taking you directly to the heart of Bergen, with the old Bryggen wharf - a UNESCO Heritage site.

Day 5: Bergen

Enjoy the day at leisure in Bergen:
see the famous Fish market, the old Bryggen wharf, enjoy the marvelous view from mount Floyen. Optional: add a 3 hour city sightseeing, incl Troldhaugen/Edvard Grieg's home and the picturesque Stave Church

Day 6: Bergen-Hardangerfjord/Lofthus

Bus to Norheimsund, with connecting fjord cruise on the picturesque Hardangerfjord to the fjord village of Lofthus. Overnight at the beautifully located Hotel Ullensvang. Buffet dinner included.

Day 7: Lofthus-Oslo

Fjord cruise to Ulvik, then bus to Voss, taking you to the train station. Train to Oslo via the scenic Hardangervidda National Park.

The Norwegian Fjords

The Sognefjord consists of the main fjord - Norway's longest and deepest fjord - and several branches, such as the Aurlandsfjord, the Naeroyfjord (on the World Heritage list), the Fjaerlandsfjord & the Lusterfjord. The famous Flam Railway takes you down to the Aurlandsfjord & the village of Flam from the Myrdal mountain station through the spectacular Flam valley. The Flam Railway is a side line of the main Bergen train line between Oslo and Bergen.

The Hardangerfjord - the Queen of the fjords - is located south east of Bergen, easily accessible from Bergen by car. The Hardangerfjord is surrounded by mountains, the majestic Folgefonna glacier, idyllic fjord villages & orchards. The early spring Hardangerfjord fruit blossom is unforgettable!

The Bergen line
The Bergen Railway is a unique experience on Northern Europe's highest-altitude railway line. The highest point is the Finse station, 1222 ms above sea level. One of the greatest challenges is the harsh and changeable weather. Keeping the railway open demands great effort and technical expertise. Today, skilled workers, effective equipment, tunnels and snow tunnels make the Bergen Railway one of the safest and most comfortable ways of travelling between Oslo and Bergen. The line was voted one of the 20 best railway experiences in the world in 1999.

The Flam Railway
The journey on the Flam Railway is regarded as one of the highlights of the Norway in a Nutshell® tour. The 20-km-long train journey from the mountain station of Myrdal down to the fjord village of Flam, takes around 55 minutes. On the journey, you have views of some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway with an ever-changing panorama of mountain peaks and cascading waterfalls. The train moves slowly or stops at the best views.
