Sustainable Tourism To Norway by Pixabay

All our trips are based on our core value of sustainable tourism with eco-friendly travel that leaves as little an environmental footprint on our nature as possible. We strive daily to give you an authentic and local experience with public and environmentally friendly transport like trains, electrical cruise ferries and buses. As well as focusing on the environmental aspect of our tours, we cooperate closely with local activity, transport and accommodation providers. We set strict requirements to our partners and ensure that they operate within our standards.

We offer trips to destinations that are working for sustainable tourism like the Geirangerfjord area, the Sognefjord area, Lysefjord, Lofoten Islands, Geilo, Røros, Oslo, Tromso and Alta.

TRANSPORT

Travelling in Norway can be difficult due to Norway’s topography with rugged terrain, mountain crossings, fjords cutting into the landscape and long distances. This makes it difficult for other than locals to plan and put together a proper way to travel, especially in an eco-friendly way.

We use public and environmentally friendly transport wherever possible for our trips like scheduled trains, boats and buses. Our service providers have a strong focus on reducing the environmental footprint within tourism, so that visitors can explore Norway in an eco-friendly manner.

Due to the long distances in Norway, we sometimes have to use domestic flights. We use domestic airlines who aim to reduce their CO2 emissions, invest in green technology and work to achieve more sustainable travel.

NAEROYFJORD CRUISE

The eco-friendly vessels cruising the UNESCO Naeroyfjord represents a new standard within design and technology. They are designed to give travellers the outmost experience in all kinds of weather with large windows and gangways inspired by mountain paths. On the top deck you can enjoy a better and different nature experience compared to other passenger vessels.

There are two eco-friendly, premium vessels sailing on the Naeroyfjord, one is a hybrid vessel and the other is a fully electrical vessel. We use these vessels wherever possible for our itineraries.

Havila Voyages

Norwegian people are passionate about preserving the coast, so that we can pass it on to future generations – as it was, in turn, passed on to us. That is also why Havila Voyages´ ships are ultra-modern newbuilds, which leave behind the smallest environmental footprint it is possible to make with today’s technology. Havila Voyages is the coastal cruise line that has nothing but environment-friendly ships in its fleet. These new ships have the world’s largest battery packs, which means that they can sail through the world heritage fjords with reduced emissions.

HURTIGRUTEN

The company mission of Hurtigruten is focused on sustainability with innovation, technology and concrete measures. In addition, the cruise company’s sustainability ambitions are linked to sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action and life below water. Further, they value quality education, gender equality, peace and justice.

The earth’s vulnerable ecosystems and wildlife are threatened by climate change, plastic waste, and unsustainable mass tourism. As a counter-measure, they are investing in hybrid electric-powered expedition cruise ships and they were the first major travel company in the world to remove single-use plastic from their entire fleet. It is important for Hurtigruten to contribute to the livelihoods and welfare of small coastal communities by using local suppliers for excursions and sourcing ingredients of local produce. On its journey along the Norwegian coast, Hurtigruten will not leave visible or lasting signs of their visits.

On board Hurtigruten, you can find an expert expedition team that is eager to share their knowledge of the culture, history, wildlife, ecosystems, and more of each destination visited.

What our customers say:

  • On behalf of the group I would like to thank you and your colleagues for organizing our wonderful tour of Norway. Everything went very well including the weather, which was spectacular. We enjoyed all the hotels, the central locations you chose and the amenities, especially the lavish breakfasts. Three extra days in Oslo allowed us to tour the city at our leisure and to enjoy more of the important sights including the newly opened National Museum. The Norway in a Nutshell tour was amazing and made much easier by using your recommended porterage service between hotels in Oslo and Bergen. Both the train journeys and the boat trip were spectacular, and combined with a night in the beautiful Kviknes Hotel made for an unforgettable two days. We were very impressed by the Hurtigruten cruise, particularly the way they combined a working ship with a cruise ship, the comfortable accommodations, the food and service. It was fascinating to visit all the various ports, islands and fjords and the two included tours were excellent and informative. In the end we were glad to have the extra night in Kirkenes, to visit their lovely museum and take a trip to the Russian border. It was a good way to end the tour. Again, thank for staying with us through 2 years of pandemic postponements and changes. We certainly will recommend Fjord Travel in the future.

  • Thank you for assisting us with our trip to Norway. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Kirkenes and the Snow Hotel. The arrangements you made for us were perfect. The lodging was comfortable and the excursions were fun. Tom and I rarely use the services of a travel company when we travel; you enriched our trip and made the planning easy.

  • I wanted to thank everybody. We had a wonderful trip. Everything went well and fortunately we had the chance to see the lights while on the cruise. All my friends in Turkey would like to go on a similar trip. So I will be in touch with you. Thanks again and best wishes to all of you.
