About Fjord Travel Norway

Fjord Travel Norway curates exceptional travel experiences, making every journey a story worth sharing.

We plan Norway. You explore it! Since 2000, we've been curating self-guided tours through Norway—the kind where you travel at your own pace, make your own discoveries, but never worry about whether the train connections actually work or if that hotel is worth the price.

We aim to create stories worth telling. We want our journeys to resonate with you long after you've returned home, helping you feel Norway – not just see it.

We are a proud part of the DSD Explore family.

Here's what we do:

Think of us as your Norwegian friend who's already done the research, tested the routes, argued with the hotel about breakfast times, and figured out which departures have the best light for that Instagram shot you're definitely taking.

We design independent journeys that connect Norway's best experiences – scenic railways, electric fjord boats, historic hotels, Northern Lights chases, Michelin-starred dinners – into seamless itineraries that you travel on your own schedule.

What makes us different in a world of AI and algorithms:

We're local. Based in Bergen since day one, now part of the DSD Explore family with teams across Norway – Lofoten, Trondheim, Oslo, Stavanger. When you ask us about a destination, we've probably been there last month. Or we live there. Or our colleague grew up there.

We're actually reachable. Missed your train connection? Lost your booking confirmation? Wondering if that hike is doable in the rain? We have phone support with rotating shifts, so there's always a real person you can call – not just a chatbot, but someone from our team who can actually help. Because travel rarely goes wrong during business hours. Want to see our faces? Scroll down on this page!

We're picky about what we include. Before any experience makes it into our tours, we've vetted the operators, checked the quality, and made sure it's something we'd actually recommend. Some activities we've done ourselves, others come highly vetted through our network of local partners. Either way, we don't sell anything we're not confident about.

We tell you the truth. Bergen rains 270 days a year – we'll help you pack accordingly. July in Geiranger is crowded – we'll suggest alternatives or shoulder season. That hike looks easy on Instagram but absolutely isn't – we'll be honest about difficulty levels.

We care about the details. Like knowing which side of the train to sit on for the best fjord views. Or that the 11:43 departure gives you time for a proper coffee in Oslo. Or how to pronounce "Geirangerfjord" so locals don't immediately switch to English.

We're in it for the long game. Sustainable tourism isn't a marketing buzzword for us—it's about electric boats, railway travel, and supporting local businesses that have been around longer than Instagram. We want you to see Norway, but we also want Norway to still be here (and recognizable) in 50 years.

The people behind your Norwegian adventure

We're not AI agents. We're actual Norwegians who live, breathe, and occasionally complain about the weather here.

Our mission

Tourism is both a gift and a challenge. It enriches travelers with new memories and perspectives and supports local economies by creating jobs. Our mission is to offer travel experiences throughout the year across various locations, providing value to local communities while championing sustainable solutions.

We strive to ensure that our presence brings light to homes in both small and large places, welcoming the world to Norway.

Commitment to responsible travel

At Fjord Travel Norway, we prioritize responsible tourism. Our journeys aim to respect the environment by using trains, electric fjord boats, and buses. We collaborate with local activity, transport, and accommodation providers to offer authentic experiences.

We work closely with our partners to ensure they align with our standards. In the DSD Explore family, we have sister companies with local presence in Lofoten, Trondheim, Oslo and Stavanger.
