Bird watching safari – Hurtigruten land excursion

Bird safari. Svetlana Funtusova, www.nordnorge.comA spectacular Bird watching Safari to one of the world’s most exciting nature reserves, the Gjesvaerstappan, which lies approximately 15 km west of the North Cape.

This is an optional land excursion which you can add to your Hurtigruten cruise booked through Fjord Travel Norway. The land excursion will appear during the cruise booking process, with prices and details.

On this tour you travel first to the small fishing village of Gjesvaer. On the way you will receive an introduction to the local flora and fauna, before continuing by boat to the nature reserve. From the vessel you can study Finnmark’s largest flock of puffins, together with large numbers of kittiwakes. During the nesting season this area teems with life as mighty sea eagles hover above in search of prey, while guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, Arctic skuas, northern fulmars, Brünnich’s guillemots, and the large northern gannet fill the air with a cacophony of shrieks and screeches. In the autumn you can also catch a glimpse of Europe’s smallest seabird, the British storm-petrel.

This excursion gives you fantastic filming and picture-taking opportunities, so bring your camera and binoculars!
