Alta – a true winter wonderland for the whole family

When do kids stop believing in Santa? Probably around the same time they realize that winter wonderlands exist only in the movies. Unless, of course, you take them to Alta.

Here, in the very north of Norway, snow is real, reindeer roam freely, and the Northern Lights put Disney’s special effects team to shame. Nobody freezes in Alta

Yes, it gets cold. But no, you won’t turn into an icicle. “We offer rental clothing that keeps the whole family warm and safe – from wool underwear and snowsuits to mittens, hats, and boots. This way, everyone can laugh, play, and explore without worrying about the weather,” says Iwarsson.

Translation: pack light, stress less, and leave the logistics to the locals.

Adventures for big and small

In Alta, kids aren’t just passengers; they’re explorers. “Their eyes light up when the dogs bark and wag their tails, and they get to try short sled rides as little mushers,” Annichen explains. There’s also snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing – and of course, cuddling with the clever huskies in the dog yard.

Or as the Lonely Planet Editors put it: “When you travel with your children, you see the world twice — once through your eyes, and once through theirs.” In Alta, that second view usually comes with sparkling eyes, rosy cheeks and snowflakes on eyelashes.
