For a taste of local life, walk along Aker Brygge waterfront – restaurants, cafes, and shops line the harbor, good for a meal or people-watching. The Akershus Fortress offers historical context and views over the Oslo fjord. Or visit the iconic Oslo Opera House, where you can walk on the sloping roof for views across the city and water.

Journey to the "Capital of Fjord Norway"

After breakfast, board the Bergen Line for the journey west. The train winds through Hallingdal valley where small villages dot the landscape, then climbs to Hardangervidda – Europe's largest mountain plateau. Watch for Finse station at 1,222 meters, the highest point on the line, where snow often lingers into summer.

You'll arrive in Bergen surrounded by seven mountains. The city's colorful wooden houses climb the hillsides on narrow streets. After checking into your hotel for the next two nights, you're free to explore on your own.

The historic Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf – a UNESCO World Heritage site – lines the harbor with old wooden merchant buildings now housing boutiques and cafes. For evening views, take the funicular or hike up Mount Fløyen. The city spreads below you, islands scattered across the fjord beyond.

Full day in Bergen

You have a full day to explore Bergen and its surroundings at your own pace, or add one of our selected excursions during checkout.

Mostraumen Fjord Cruise: The journey takes you through the 27-kilometer Osterfjord as mountains close in on both sides. The vessel navigates through Mostraumen strait where strong currents squeeze between steep walls.

Dinner at Cornelius Seafood Restaurant: The restaurant sits on a small island just outside Bergen. They serve freshly caught seafood – much of it caught by their own divers – with views across the fjord toward mountains and passing boats.

Journey to Flåm by rail and boat

Take the morning train from Bergen to Voss, then board a bus that climbs through mountain landscapes to Gudvangen valley. Views open up over Nærøy canyon as you descend.

The day's highlight is the fjord cruise from Gudvangen through inner branches of the Sognefjord. The UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord narrows between steep mountainsides – look for old farms clinging to cliffs above. The fjord widens as you enter Aurlandsfjord, with mountains stepping back from the water.

The day ends in Flåm, a charming village nestled at the heart of the fjords. Here, you'll spend the night, allowing you to fully soak in the atmosphere and scenery that surrounds you.

Flåm Railway and return to Oslo

Optional early addition available during checkout: Start your day with a fast-paced RIB boat wildlife safari departing from Flåm. At noon, board the famous Flåm Railway – one of the world's steepest standard gauge lines. The train climbs to Myrdal through tunnels and past waterfalls, with the Flåm River visible far below.

At Myrdal, transfer to the Bergen Line for the return to Oslo. You'll cross Hardangervidda mountain plateau again, this time heading east as the landscape opens across Norway's highlands.

You'll arrive in Oslo for your final night, back where you started but with Norway's classic route behind you. Breakfast the next morning concludes the tour.
