Ready for a city break — with a literal cliffhanger?

Think city break, and you might picture cafés, galleries, and a charming waterfront. Stavanger ticks all the boxes, and then tosses in a jaw-dropping fjord adventure while it’s at it.

Stavanger has all the right ingredients for a classic city escape — salty sea breeze, vibrant food spots, street art, galleries and just enough cobblestones to charm you.

But wait, there is more. Because just outside the city, Norway shifts gears.

Summer night at the harbor of Stavanger with blue sky and pink clouds

One moment you’re wandering cobbled streets and browsing Nordic design; the next, you're breathing in mountain air and standing at the edge of one of nature’s boldest and most iconic viewing platforms.

You’ll stand there, at the edge of a 600-metre cliff, looking out over the fjord and wondering how this all started with a weekend getaway.

Welcome to Stavanger

Arrive in Stavanger and get settled in this friendly coastal city with everything within easy reach. Once you’ve checked in to your centrally located hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day to explore at your own pace. Stroll through the charming old town, check out a café or two, or take a walk along the harbour — Stavanger is easy to get to know, and even easier to enjoy.

If you’d like to kick off your adventure from the water, you can add an optional fjord experience at checkout, and see Pulpit Rock (or “Preikestolen,” as the locals call it) from below before you hike to the top the next day. It’s the perfect preview of what’s to come:

Step aboard a silent fjord cruise and glide through the majestic Lysefjord. From the water, look up at Preikestolen towering 604 metres above – carved by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. The boat cruises past waterfalls and steep cliffs, with indoor comfort or open-deck views.

Or if you prefer something with more adrenaline? Choose a RIB safari and feel the wind in your hair as you speed between caves, waterfalls, and soaring cliffs. Spot sea eagles above and capture unforgettable views of Preikestolen, Vagabond Cave, and Hengjane Falls along the way.
