Norway’s currency drop benefits travelers – but for how long?

Norway is often seen as a pricey destination, with its amazing nature commanding a premium.

But now it's actually much more affordable than usual for many international travelers.

Unlike some of its neighbors, Norway has its own currency, the krone. Recently, the krone has dropped significantly compared to the dollar, pound, and euro, almost reaching the levels seen during the big pandemic crash in March 2020.

Here's a deep dive on the weak krone, from the Economist in September.

But what might be important for you is...

The weak local currency means travelers from other countries can get more value for their money when visiting Norway. It's a great chance to see the fjords, mountains and northern lights without spending as much!

Will it last?

The krone's current weakness has sparked debate among policymakers and economy experts.

Sveinung Rotevatn, Venstre's finance spokesperson, describes the krone's decline as dramatic and urges the creation of a "krone commission" to find solutions. He suggests that linking the krone to the euro, as Denmark does, could be considered.

Rotevatn notes, “I believe we shouldn’t rule out any possibilities when faced with such a dramatic development.”

Jan Ludvig Andreassen, Chief Economist at Eika Gruppen, suggests that tying the krone to the European common currency might be inevitable.

What does this mean for our travelers?

Norway is basically on sale for travelers right now! With the krone at a low point, you can experience the magic of Norway without breaking the bank.

But just like any great sale, it might not last forever...

If you're thinking about a trip, now's the time to grab this chance before things change.
