Northern Lights Photo Workshop Norway

Day 1

Arrival to Evenes

Individual arrival to Evenes/Harstad Airport ** where you will meet Ulla & Basti and the rest of the group. From the airport you will travel by minibus to Stamsund. Check-in at a traditional fisherman cabin in the heart of the small village right at the harbour (2 people share a room, 6 people per fisherman cabin with shared facilities & kitchen).
You will stay here for the entire trip, using it as a base of operations as youe move throughout the Lofoten Islands each day and night to photograph amazing things.
Make sure to have your camera gear ready; if the Northern Lights make a display on this evening, we may head out for our first shoot!

Day 2

Stamsund & Henningsvaer

After breakfast (included) you will explore the tiny village of Stamsund. Here you can find many scenic photo motives. With a population of 1,000, Stamsund is an important fishing port and the largest base for Lofoten trawl fishing.
In the afternoon you will drive to Henningsvaer, another picturesque fishing village. Enjoy scenic views on the way.

In the evening you will once again head out to search for the Northern Lights.

Day 3

RIB Boat Safari to Ballstad

Today you will experience a RIB Boat trip to Ballstad. It includes a 45min stop where you can explore the small village together with Ulla & Basti. The RIB experience will give a fantastic view of the beautiful Lofoten, mountains and the sea.
With luck you will also be able to see majestic sea eagles!
Warm and protective clothes are included.

In the evening you will once again head out to search for the Northern Lights.

Day 4

Arctic Beaches

Lofoten is well-renowned for its scenic beaches, with their golden sands and turquoise water framed by majestic mountains all around. You will visit the most picturesque beaches for landscape photography in the Lofoten Islands, including Uttakleiv, Haukland & Unstad.
The Unstad beach has become the surfer’s paradise in Norway, both during winter and summer. All of these beaches make for wonderful locations to shoot the Northern Lights.
Weather permitting you will also spend the evening roaming the shores in search of the magic lights!

Day 5

Reine

Today you will head to Reine, with scenic views along the way. The breathtaking village of Reine is located on the island of Moskenesoya. With red and white fishermen’s huts dotting the shoreline and surrounding peaks of granite shooting out of the Reinefjorden, the village has earned a reputation as “the most beautiful place in the world.”
Weather permitting, the Northern Lights will appear in the sky!

Day 6

Glass blower, beaches & Viking museum

The last day of your workshop on Lofoten Islands you will visit Ramberg beach, a glass blower in the small settelement Vikten as well as a Viking Museum. The museum consists of an impressive reconstruction of the Chieftain´s house, in full size (83 meters long), next to the site of the original house.

In the evening you will once again head out to search for the Northern Lights.

Day 7

Departure

Today you will return to Evenes/Harstad Airport with Ulla & Basti. Individual departure ** from Harstad/Evenes Airport. Along the way, you will have a chance to recap upon your photography adventure and to consolidate your friendships, no doubt with pockets full of memories from an exciting time in the Lofoten Islands.

Your workshop hosts Ulla & Basti

Ulla Lohmann is a freelance Photojournalist and Filmmaker with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management. She is an elected member of the renown Explorer’s Club and her work is represented by National Geographic.
Other clients include GEO, BBC, Red Bull Media House, Stern, Terra Mater, New York Times. Lohmann is the world’s first women who set foot inside the active Benbow volcano in Vanuatu.

Sebastian Hofmann is camera drone pilot, film maker, expedition leader and pilot. He studied Geology in Germany and New Zealand. He has worked for clients such as National Geographic, BMW Motorrad, ZDF, SWR, Servus TV, Red Bull Media House, the BBC.
Basti organizes expeditions around the world, from the highest mountains in South America to the densest jungle in Papua New Guinea. Ulla & Basti  live south of Munich in Bavaria, Germany.

6 nights at a fishermen cottage in shared rooms
(2 people per room – 6 people per rorbu), shared facilities, kitchen and living room. Bed linen and breakfast is included in the tour price.
