Weather permitting, the excursion begins with what has been named one of the world’s most beautiful roads— the Atlantic Ocean Road— the 8-kilometre-long route that runs across islets and skerries all the way out by the sea. Along the way there will be a photo stop to capture the rugged scenery and enjoy the view.
The bus will then take you into the mountain and the marble mines. Golden marble has been extracted here since the 1930s, and mining has created 40 kilometres of mining shafts over eleven levels. Part of the mine is a 300-metre lake with crystal clear water.
A safe and stable raft takes you across the underground lake, where you get the chance to taste the pure spring water that runs down the mountain walls. The lake is lit up by colourful lights and the tunnel is decorated with chandeliers, creating a magical atmosphere.
Finally, you arrive in the main hall, a large mining hall that can accommodate 300 people. An entertaining film about the mining operation will be shown. In this unique surrounding, you will be served a meat soup and of course the mine’s own spring water to drink.
At the end of the trip there will be time for a short stroll in Molde town before boarding the Havila Voyages ship again.
