Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, Norway is a popular destination for travelers arriving by plane, train, ship and automobile. The Norway in a Nutshell tour creates an immersive experience from the moment you start your journey. We offer a selection of Norway in a Nutshell tours, with start from Bergen and Oslo, or in combination with longer round trips.

Oh the places you’ll go

At Fjord Travel Norway, we’ll help you arrange an independent tour, which is perfect for travelers who love exploring on their own, with the occasional guide to highlight the truly remarkable sights. We’ll take care of the details—including accommodation, transportation and excursions—so you can focus on enjoying your time in Norway to the fullest.

The “originale” Nutshell-tour starts from Oslo. We suggest maximizing your time in the capital city and visiting the many sights downtown and along the water in this walkable city before setting off on one of Europe’s steepest and most scenic train lines towards Flåm.

Flåm is one of the most popular destinations in Norway, and for good reason! Tucked between a series of steep fjord cliffs, your one-night stay in this incredible scenic wonderland will be unforgettable.

The final leg of your journey will begin with a Nærøyfjorden fjord cruise where you’ll pass by tiny fjord settlements and quaint farms amongst the towering cliffs. A coach will then transport you through the breathtaking Nærøydalen Valley to Voss where you’ll board a local train, which will take you to the Norwegian Sea to relax for a two-night stay in Norway’s second-largest city Bergen, before returning to Oslo by train.

Oh the things you’ll see

No matter when you book or where you look between Oslo to Bergen, you are guaranteed to be left speechless at the natural and human-made beauty of Scandinavia. To truly make the most of your tour, take advantage of some of these notable optional excursions during your time in Flåm and Bergen.

Perched 650 meters (2,132 feet) above the fjord, a better view of the surrounding area is hard to picture! This roundtrip bus tour lasts about two hours.

With two nights to spend in Bergen, there will be plenty of time to take in popular attractions, such as the UNESCO Bryggen Wharf and Fish Market. You also have the option to add on a three-hour, 27 kilometer (16.7 miles) cruise down the narrow Mostaumen strait or book a seat at Cornelius Seafood Restaurant, one of Norway’s best seafood restaurants.

You may also wish to extend your trip by experiencing the Raumabanen train line, named Europe’s most beautiful railway, and see sights such as the Troll Wall and the Rauma River.

No matter which route you choose, there will be much to discover from Oslo to Bergen and back again. From sea to sky, this authentically Scandinavian experience is one you will never forget.

What our customers say:

  • Thank you for assisting us with our trip to Norway. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Kirkenes and the Snow Hotel. The arrangements you made for us were perfect. The lodging was comfortable and the excursions were fun. Tom and I rarely use the services of a travel company when we travel; you enriched our trip and made the planning easy.

  • On behalf of the group I would like to thank you and your colleagues for organizing our wonderful tour of Norway. Everything went very well including the weather, which was spectacular. We enjoyed all the hotels, the central locations you chose and the amenities, especially the lavish breakfasts. Three extra days in Oslo allowed us to tour the city at our leisure and to enjoy more of the important sights including the newly opened National Museum. The Norway in a Nutshell tour was amazing and made much easier by using your recommended porterage service between hotels in Oslo and Bergen. Both the train journeys and the boat trip were spectacular, and combined with a night in the beautiful Kviknes Hotel made for an unforgettable two days. We were very impressed by the Hurtigruten cruise, particularly the way they combined a working ship with a cruise ship, the comfortable accommodations, the food and service. It was fascinating to visit all the various ports, islands and fjords and the two included tours were excellent and informative. In the end we were glad to have the extra night in Kirkenes, to visit their lovely museum and take a trip to the Russian border. It was a good way to end the tour. Again, thank for staying with us through 2 years of pandemic postponements and changes. We certainly will recommend Fjord Travel in the future.

  • We just recently completed the Tromso, Northern Lights & Arctic Coast tour. I am writing to say what an amazing tour we had. Everything ran smoothly without an issue, the accommodation was fantastic and the tours were brilliant. We cannot fault the package at all. I would also like to thank Franziska and Lene, they both were fantastic in answering all my questions promptly, whilst booking the tour. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable holiday!
