Not your average dinner spot

Statholdergaarden is housed in one of Oslo’s most distinguished buildings, a historic mansion dating back to the 17th century.

Over the centuries, the building has served various purposes, but its architectural beauty has been carefully preserved.

The restaurant’s interior exudes timeless elegance, with meticulously restored stucco ceilings (regarded as Norway's best of its kind), intricate woodwork, and an atmosphere that transports guests to a bygone era.

The delicate balance between history and modern refinement makes Statholdergaarden a truly unique dining venue.

But don’t you worry – while the staff hold themselves to the highest standards, they also strive to create a warm and relaxed atmosphere, making sure you can sit back, unwind, and fully enjoy the experience. So, dont let the elegant setting intimidate you.

The vision of Bent Stiansen

At the heart of Statholdergaarden is chef and owner Bent Stiansen – a name that carries weight in the world of fine dining.

In 1993, Stiansen made history by becoming the first Norwegian (and Scandinavian) chef to win the Bocuse d’Or – often described as the Olympics of cooking.

One year later, he opened Statholdergaarden in this historic building alongside his wife, and today he runs the restaurant together with his daughter, Natascha Stiansen. And since 1998, Statholdergaarden has held a Michelin star – a recognition of quality and consistency that it has maintained with pride for over two decades.

But Stiansen’s influence goes beyond the plate. He is passionate about mentoring the next generation of chefs, and the restaurant has long been a respected training ground for culinary apprentices.

This commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and sharing knowledge is part of what makes Statholdergaarden truly special.
