Aurora Safari in Tromso area

Northern Lights in Tromso area by Malangen Resort

Join the Aurora Safari in Tromso area – taking you to the best places for seeing the Northern Lights:
a comfortable and social Northern Lights safari to private base stations in Tromso area, with local hospitality and high chances of Northern Lights.

There are seven private and safe base stations located in different areas to cover different weather regimes. The base stations offer a local host, warm shelters (lavvu or other building), toilet facilities, thermal winter suits, tripods, outside benches and campfire (weather permitting).

This is an optional add-on package with excursion & overnight in Tromso, which you can add to your Northern Lights trip booked through Fjord Travel Norway. The additional night will be at the same hotel as the rest of the tour.
The add-on option will appear during the tour booking process, with prices and details.

Northern Lights

Based on the operator’s many years of experience and thousands of Northern Lights safaris, the latest weather forecast, wind direction and the hosts at the Base Stations, they choose the Base Station or Stations with the best chances of clear sky and, therefore, of experiencing the Northern Lights.

If the weather changes and clouds move in, they check with their network if it would be better to move to another location. And if so, they finish the meal, hot drinks and “lefse” before leaving to look for clear skies somewhere else. In these circumstances, they will stay along the roads searching for a clear sky.

Their focus on this trip is always to show you the Northern Lights!

Amazing Northern Lights

Where do the magic Northern Lights come from?

The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, are an ethereal display of coloured lights shimmering across the night sky. What causes them?
Dr Dònal Hill from University of Oxford explains us all about these magic lights occurring on the northern skies.

What our customers say:

  • On behalf of the group I would like to thank you and your colleagues for organizing our wonderful tour of Norway. Everything went very well including the weather, which was spectacular. We enjoyed all the hotels, the central locations you chose and the amenities, especially the lavish breakfasts. Three extra days in Oslo allowed us to tour the city at our leisure and to enjoy more of the important sights including the newly opened National Museum. The Norway in a Nutshell tour was amazing and made much easier by using your recommended porterage service between hotels in Oslo and Bergen. Both the train journeys and the boat trip were spectacular, and combined with a night in the beautiful Kviknes Hotel made for an unforgettable two days. We were very impressed by the Hurtigruten cruise, particularly the way they combined a working ship with a cruise ship, the comfortable accommodations, the food and service. It was fascinating to visit all the various ports, islands and fjords and the two included tours were excellent and informative. In the end we were glad to have the extra night in Kirkenes, to visit their lovely museum and take a trip to the Russian border. It was a good way to end the tour. Again, thank for staying with us through 2 years of pandemic postponements and changes. We certainly will recommend Fjord Travel in the future.

  • We just recently completed the Tromso, Northern Lights & Arctic Coast tour. I am writing to say what an amazing tour we had. Everything ran smoothly without an issue, the accommodation was fantastic and the tours were brilliant. We cannot fault the package at all. I would also like to thank Franziska and Lene, they both were fantastic in answering all my questions promptly, whilst booking the tour. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable holiday!

  • Thank you for assisting us with our trip to Norway. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Kirkenes and the Snow Hotel. The arrangements you made for us were perfect. The lodging was comfortable and the excursions were fun. Tom and I rarely use the services of a travel company when we travel; you enriched our trip and made the planning easy.
